Follow Up Study for Opponensplasty in Leprosy Hand

Abstract
|

|
There were forty patients for the restoration of opposition of the thumb at Kyungpook National University Hospital from 1966 to 1976.
In all Patients, loss of opposition was caused by leprosy and restoration of opposition was done by Brand type of opponensplasty. Nothing of significance was apparent in sex incidence and in side involved. Nineteen cases were followed up with minimum of twelve months.
Follow-up results were analyzed by assessment system of the Palande´s.
Good results were seen in. five cases and fair results in ten cases. The four cases of poor results occurred because of deformity and weakness.
Adjuvant procedures, as needed, were thumb web plasty and arthrodesis of metacarpo-phalangeal joint of the thumb.
